Laser vision correction in Turkey

Laser eye operations are vision correction operations that replace the use of glasses and contact lenses for those who suffer from vision defects such as (Myopia), (Hyperopia) and others, and (LASIK) and (PRK) techniques are the two most common operations.
Laser vision correction procedures are quick and painless. It takes only 20 minutes, and it is performed under local anesthesia, so that the patient does not need to enter the hospital!

Myopia and hyperopia

Each of these cases is a refractive defect in vision that leads to distortion of vision as follows:

  • Myopia: Blurred vision of distant objects.
  • Hyperopia: Blurred vision of near objects.

Myopia and hyperopia are two of the most common refractive defects. They result from a defect in the eye that affects its ability to focus light on the back part of the eye called the retina.

The cornea (that is, the transparent front layer of the eye) works with the crystalline lens inside it to change the direction of light in the eye, and this process is called refraction of light, so that it can eventually reach the retina (that is, the thin layer at the end of the eye that is composed of light-sensitive cells ), and when light is not centered or positioned correctly on the retina, the brain analyzes a distorted image.

Myopia is one of the most common light refraction problems in the eye, and whoever suffers from symptoms of myopia has difficulty seeing distant objects, but he can see close things, and myopia may arise gradually or may develop rapidly, especially during childhood and adolescence . It can also come genetically, and myopia occurs when the eyeball is too long, which leads to focusing light rays at a closer distance before the retina instead of focusing directly on its surface, and the reason for myopia may also be due to the fact that the cornea is curved to a large degree in relation to its length Eye ball.

As for the symptoms of hyperopia, they are the opposite of myopia, because the eyeball in this case is very short, which leads to refraction of light at a farther distance behind the retina. Farsightedness often arises at birth and may come from heredity.

Laser vision correction techniques

Laser vision correction operations change the curvature of the cornea in order to correct the refraction of light and ensure that it is focused properly. And others), both surgeries work to change the shape of the surface of the cornea, but each surgery has a different procedure from the other.

  • PRK

With PRK, the surgeon removes the thin outer layer on the cornea. Then a laser is used to change the shape of the exposed layers of the cornea, and to repair any irregular curvature in the eye to achieve the required vision correction.

  • LASIK

In LASIK surgeries (the most commonly used procedure), the surgeon uses a laser to separate the epithelium and create a flap or flap of the cornea. He then lifts this flap, then uses a laser to change the shape of the corneal tissue and remove part of it, after that, the flap is lowered again. The cornea is expected to repair itself during the following months without the need to use any sutures.

The choice of the right technique for you depends on the results of the eye examinations during the first consultation before the surgery. The eye surgeon will personally assess your condition and will have the final say in choosing the best technique for you.

What is the difference between surface laser and LASIK?

PRK is the only option for patients who are not eligible for LASIK surgery due to certain disorders or personal circumstances.
Recovery is slower after PRK surgery, and it is necessary to use therapeutic contact lenses after the operation in order to promote epithelial recovery. PRK surgery is also more painful.
On the other hand, LASIK is less painful and needs a shorter recovery period, but it may cause disturbances in the corneal flap and loss of its balance.

Advantages of laser vision correction in Turkey

The operation in medical centers in Turkey has the following advantages:

  • The process does not involve surgical cutting of any part of the eye.
  • There is no need to put bandages on the eye after the operation.
  • The success rate is very high, and the patient’s vision score becomes 6/6 after recovery.
  • It is a safe operation, and it is possible to recover within a short period from all possible complications after the operation.
  • Relatively quick surgery.
  • The recovery time and results are fast as well.
  • The operation is completely independent of the use of lenses and medical glasses after recovery and improved vision.
  • The operation is not accompanied by any pain, neither during nor after it.
  • Medical centers in Turkey are characterized by high efficiency and experience, and the presence of trained medical staff with long experience in performing vision correction operations.
  • Turkey in general, and the city of Istanbul in particular, is considered suitable for medical tourism and spending the recovery period in it
